This book is about 20 years old Chris McCandeless who goes out into the wild and with little food and plans to survive off the wilderness. The story takes place in Alaska 1996.Young Chris brings rice, a gun, and a few other materials. This book is about friendship and trust.
In the story Chris McCandeless hitchhikes around The United States and meats friends but before that he burns his belongings, leaves his car in the middle of nowhere and donates all his money for college to a hunger facility. Than he starts to live off the people and the land. The bad thing about Chris is that once he would befriend these kind people who would take him in and give him food, he would just leave. He couldn't trust anybody even though many people trusted him. He communicated little with his family and wanted to start his own life. Chris also didn't tell anyone his real name he just went by Alex Super tramp. While he was on his journey it lead him to Alaska. Chris liked to read semi realistic fiction novel's about being out in the wilderness. This provoked Chris to try to survive off the land. Chris didn't understand that the stories weren't real so he decided he was going to survive off the land in Alaska. To find out what happens to him in Alaska I'm not going to tell you, you're going to have to find out yourself by reading the book.

In my opinion the book was written nicely. It has a moderately high vocabulary level and it is very easy to visualize the book in your head while reading. The book is told from a standby characters point of view meaning they used quotes and interview to tell the story of Chris McCandeless. It seemed like he quoted everyone he was interviewing correctly and in order. I thought the book had a great plot and that it lead the reader into reading more. This is actually a real story that has not only been documented in a book, but also in a movie.
I think that the range of people reading this book should be 13+. I think it is sometimes hard to follow the time period of the book because they switch around a lot. Also it's sometimes hard to tell if there is switch in interviews.

assignment 8

chapter 11 and 12: Run Ralph run!

Im so cold Ralph.  He ignores me and so do the twins.  I can't see either.  I was just making things worse.  We had no fire and just four people left in our tribe.  It was decided that we were going to to get my glasses and talk some sense into Jack.  I am nearly blind without the glasses so that is one of the main reasons that I am going.  We are going to take the conch.  Maybe someone will listen

Every thing is so blurry and i have to rely on tone of the twins to help me walk.  When we got to the entrance I could see feint blurs.  I hear Ralph's conch loud and one of the blob's just calls us idiots and threw a stone at my foot.  Now a big blob came up from the jungle with a dead pig.  Ralph walks up to Jack and is told to leave.  Ralph stands up for me about the glasses.  Than he took it too far.  He called Jack a thief.  Than Jack replied by telling the hunters to take Sam and Eric's weapons and than take them away to castle rock.  I am left with no one to hold onto.  I am now crouching.  Now Ralph and Jack are fighting again.  I than hear a crack and than I see a huge brown blob fall from the mountain.  I think for a little. I am yelling and yelling over the ululation of the savages.  I figure out that the thing jolting the earth was a huge rock and I get up to get out of the way but I was too late I felt a smash against my chest and than it all went black.  

What is this? I was dead.  That was for sure. I now have a bird's eye view of the whole island and i could tell exactly what was going on.  I looked at Ralph and Jack fighting.  I saw myself on the floor dead.  Jack hurled a spear at Ralph's chest and it went in.  This was not good although it came out.  He started to run and the hunter's threw spears at him.  He managed to dodge and run.  He than disappeared into the jungle.

Ralph has been hidden.  He began to walk and came across  a pig's skull on a stick.  He took the skull and beat it till it cracked in ferocity.  He took the spear.  It was sharpened at both ends.  He than snook up on castle rock.  He saw Roger sharpen a spear at both ends.  I knew what this meant and I hope he did too.  He than sneaks up on the captured Sam and Eric.  They were both on guard duty.  He sneaked up and scared them.  They kept telling him something to leave and he was signaling that wanted them to come with me but they refused.  They gave him meat and than he left.  He ran to a thicket.  It seemed like Sam and Eric had some inside information.  I wonder if Sam and Eric are being forced to do this or have they joined Jack's clan.  

Ralph than, seeming scared, ran towards a place on the island that i have never been or see before.  It was a great hiding spot.  This was probably where Simon would walk at night.  Ralph has been talking to himself lately.  In the morning The boys were yelling all along the island.  I looked to see and they were going to go across the island like a huge rake, like a cordon.  They had swept most of the island and now they were here.  All of a sudden Roger and Jack grabbed Sam and Eric and beat them till they said something and rite when they talked Jack and Roger lit the whole island on fire.  They wanted Ralph dead.  It became to smokey to be in the thicket.  He jumped out and charged the cordon.  He managed to break through the cordon.   He got far before the group started to follow him.  He would keep going to new hiding spots as they got closer.  I look out on the ocean and I see a ship.   If only i could have stayed alive for just one more day i would have made it.  I hope Ralph gets through.  The Ship is headed for the island.  It sees the smoke.  I have to find out if it is british or not.  I look around and finally on the bow of the ship there is a British flag.  I watch it go in and dock.  I totally remember about Ralph being in trouble and i try to find him.  This is not good.  I wait 20 more seconds.  THe ship has docked and sent out little boats to bring back whoever is on the island.  Finally Ralph pops out onto the sand rite in front of the captain.  Ralph is saved and all the other boy's come out onto the beach and are amazed at what they see.  Ralph was saved and brought back to Britain.

chapter 9 and 10: Just me and animals now

Yes, Piggy we must go.  "Why?" Piggy exclaimed.  I am very hungry and I don't feel like having fruit.  Also, we need to be able to know what's happening.  "Yes,  you never know what Jack Merridew will do," Piggy said in a scared voice.  Piggy and I arrive at Castle Rock and everyone is already eating.  We are welcomed and everyone is having fun; yelling, screaming, dancing and acting barmy.  The next thing I know, I'm having fun with them.  At the end when everyone was having fun and done with their dinner, Jack invited whoever wasn't already in his tribe to be in it.  I immediately stopped the fun.  I tried to say something but there was so much commotion. I saw what he was doing.  Right after we all had a great time he decides to strike.  Now it was just Piggy and me.  "Ralph,  I think something bad is going to happen  Let's go back before someone gets hurt," Piggy said in a frightened voice.  

Later, I am dancing and singing like a savage on the outskirts of the dancing circle.  All of a sudden I hear Simon.  He is acting like an animal.  He made himself look corpulent. It seems as though everyone except Piggy and I don't know it is him.  This is bad. What if they don't realize it is him? What if they think he is a beast?  I yell but even though the masks are on their face, they cover their ears.  When they have those masks on they seem impervious to the outside world.  

As Simon came down, the other boys started attacking him.  I yelled and yelled but no one was listening.  They were destroying him.  They seemed like packs of wolves attacking a harmless animal and I could do nothing to stop it.  Simon glanced at me in his last second of life. All of a sudden there was a roar of thunder and the boys scatter to their huts.  I give one last look at poor Simon along with Piggy and we both run back.  

Piggy and I know Simon is dead.  You don't need to bring back memories.  They didn't know it was him.  After all he was acting like an animal.  It's not our fault.  "I know, but I just feel bad for poor Simon," Piggy said in sorrow.  Let's just forget about this.  Sam and Eric and a few littluns appear.  It was a murder but I was glad, for he was purged from this horrible island.  It was a long day.  Mostly we were trying to keep the fire going.  It was very hard and it was sunset.  We went to our huts.  

"Huh? what is that? "I don't know," answered Piggy.  Screaming was heard in the distance.  It was getting closer and closer.  All of a sudden three boys jumped into our hut and we were fighting.  The hut broke.  Piggy went to save the conch.  Like anyone cared anyway.  It was all dark and they were gone.  Piggy's glasses were gone, too.  They were going to use the glasses to light a fire.  We didn't understand.  We could have given them fire if they wanted it. Now Simon was dead and we couldn't build another fire .

chapter 8 : Fine be that way

huff huff there is a beast up there huff.  It was horrible and scary.  We climbed up and there it was lurching in the dark.  But Ralph ran away like a little coward.  Now everyone was gathered around us.  listening to our amazing story.  Ralph came back"I did run away but so did you".  THis was becoming a enraging conversation.  I ran away when I saw the beast.  I bet you didn't even see the beast and you were already running back to our fort.  I see Ralph weakening.  Now is the time to strike.  I could be leader finally and get this idiot out of the way.  Ok i think that since Ralph is a scardy cat.  I should replace his roll as chief.  This was unexpected I heard no cheering no whispers there was no indication that anyone wanted me as chief.  There was a pause.  Ok raise your hand if you want me to replace Ralph's roll as chief.  WHAT!! no one was raising there hands.  I don't want to play with you anymore this is no fun.  I felt like crying! these idiot want the loser as chief.  Fine i will start my own tribe.  I ran off down by the beach and into the forest.  I left big marks in the sand by pressing my foot down real hard when i stepped.  I did this so if anyone wanted to come to my tribe they could.  

I was spying on them.  I saw everything they were doing.  It seemed as though everyone was happy as to what just happened.  All of a sudden the littleuns and my hunters ran off and scattered in the forest.  I didn't know what was happening.  Could they be hunting?  Looking for me?  Gathering wood?  Soon i saw my hunters burst out of the forest with some wood and they dropped it and started running on my tracks.   Once they got close they spotted me and no longer needed the tracks.  They were tired for they had to run so that Ralph didn't see them leave.  they say for a while and than I said that we will do fine.  You are the best hunters.  They have no one.  So in the meantime should we go hunt?  One said yes and the other shrugged.   take that as a yes.  We were in the forest and all of a sudden I heard a sucking noise.  We approached it.  I stook my head above a bush and there was a sow feeding some piglets.  I pulled back my spear and threw.  Oh no it was a horrible throw.  It only went in an inch and fell out.  By the time I had gotten my spear the hunters were on a hot pursuit with the moma pig.  I caught up and we were throwing spears they all went in but came out.  This time we didn't pick up the spears but just ran after the sow.  I jumped on but it kept running now i was ontop of the pig and i pulled out my knife and started stabbing.  The pig started to slow down and than all of a sudden it got a second wind and started sprinting again.  I quickly spotted its throat and went for the kill.  I slashed twice and the sow fell to the ground.  It was a great victory.  We pulled it back to our spot and gutted the pig.  We realized that we needed fire to cook the pig.  The hunters knew about there fire because they were part of the meeting about fire.  They told me about this fire and I decided to envade the beach and steal the fire.  We got out dead sticks and sneaked.  We finally came upon them and they had lit fires.  On your mark get set GO! We all ran towards the fire and got some on our stick.  Everyone was staring at us in shock.  I turned around and told everyone that there is going to be a feast tonight and whoever wants some can come and be apart of my tribe.  Remember we have the most fun.

Simon

chapter six: beast from water or air?

Uhh what happened?  "Hurry Simon the beastie attacked us" said Samneric.  I wake up and the twins are awakening a couple more people to warn them a beastie has come from the sky in a parachute.  Everyone in the huts in front of me were awake and yawning and stretching there arms.  Some people were just getting out of there huts and others were getting spears to hunt the beastie.  It turned out that Samneric fell asleep on the job and woke up with the beastie close to them or something but they than ran down and told Ralph. 

Ralph decided that they were going to hunt the beastie because i think he was slightly frightened himself.  The hunters had spears but I didn't.  The hunters started walking with there spears and everyone else followed because we were scared.  We left Piggy and the littluns back at the huts.  We were on a whole different side of the island that no one had bin to before.   We came up some weirdly assorted rocks that formed almost a bridge to a castle like thing. We start climbing and Jack spotted a hideout which he thought was cool.  Maybe that's where the beastie lives but it wasn't there at the moment.  I think that the beastie is some human being a sick and vile creature who wasn't friends with anybody before the crash.  I am trying to think about the plane we were on before we crash landed.

chapter seven:No order

Ralph seems like he is not doing so well.  What could i say to cheer him up? This might be hard but I will do my best to make him happy.  I told hi  m that he will make it back.  He seemed reassured because of what he said.  He looked confuse though for a second.  I think he was confused because i told him HE would make it back not WE.  I like this island and I feel in peace here.  I want to stay but as many pro's there are about the island there is more cons.  I thought to myself about this for a while.  Jack wants to hunt.  I don't hunt but i just track them.  All of a sudden someone sees a bore and everyone goes after it throwing there spears and all.  The situation becomes wild and out of control.  Now everyone is on the beach.  Ralph is celebrating because he hit the bore with the spear.  Even though he did not kill it he was cheerful.  I felt him falling away.  Thats how Jack got to be how he is now.  Thinking of Jack where is he? Than a rumble comes from a bush and out pops Jack.  Everyone looked at him and he showed off his hand.  I looked closely and realized there was a bloody wound on his hand.  He started telling a story.  Oh not again.  He kind of tried to drag the attention from Ralph to himself.  He said that he tried to catch it while it was wounded and he almost got it but the tusk cut his skin open.  

After the hunters participate in a wild game where a  boy is in the middle and he is the pig and everyone pretends to kill him.  I felt that each time they played that stupid game they had less order.

Shortly after the game Ralph decides to wait till morning but Jack challenges Ralph and everyone else to go.  Ralph, Jack and Roger went up while we stayed down.  There was little argument but they were getting along.  This isn't good.  The three boy's see something and run down because they are afraid.  They came down and said it was a flappy ape shaped figure.

chapter 5: "Oh no"

3-Piggy

           Ralph is very angry and the littluns were looking at him jeeringly which I am glad I am not one of the foolish hunters or littluns who didn't follow the rules.  I always refilled the coconut shell after I got a drink.  I wasn't a hunter so I had nothing to do with the fire and I always was generous about the whole bathroom thing.  Now Ralph has a harsh tone and I don't like it.  At least it wasn't towards me.  But he could get me for not building the shelters.  I think I should do what Ralph says for now on because he is the only one protecting me from Jack and also he is leader.  

          "We need to keep that fire going!" Ralph exclaimed.  He went on for a little about how we need to be rescued and we cant just live off meat and berries for ever.  This was true even though some of the others thought it was ludicrous.  I think this island was getting to him.  Also the fact that he knows it will be a while before we get saved.  Than there was commotion of the beastie and a little kid said he had a dream and he woke up near the forest.   Ralph asked if anyone had been in the dark at night and Simon raised his hand.  This was a relief.  He also said that the beastie comes out of the water.  Which made the situation harder.  Jack's face looked angry and bored.  He got up and decided he would make up a excuse to get out of the meeting and that was to go "hunt" the beast.  He walked away tempestuously and everyone else followed with decorum.  I think everyone else followed because they are afraid and Jack has courage.  It was just Ralph Simon and I.  Ralph told us he is thinking about not being leader.  I quickly snapped and realized the only thing in the way of of me is Ralph so if Jack becomes leader, because he would be the next person people would follow, he would kill me.  Ralph is also a good leader and Jack only wants meat and doesn't care about anything else.  Simon joined in because we both knew that we were on Jacks bad side so it made sense to keep Ralph as leader.  We were all tired and wanted to go to bed.  As we were falling asleep we could hear a littlun yelling in lamentation and in terror but we didn't do anything.

chapter: 3/4 What is wrong with you!?!

uhh this is so hard.  "I know" said Simon.  Why do these huts keep breaking and where is everyone else? "I don't know but i wish someone would help us, Where will we sleep?"asked Simon.  I don't know but Jack is really taking over my leadership role and making decisions for himself.  " I think the hunters are using there jobs to keep from actually doing real work.  It was time for us to take a rest.  I laid down in the sand and Simon wandered off into the jungle.

Is that a ship? "Oh my god i think it is". exclaimed Piggy ludicrously.  I looked at the ship for around twenty seconds and than realized the smoke wasn't in the air as usual.  I ran up to the fire pit.  It was out.  How could this happen. Who was on fire duty and why were they not there!  We could have been saved!  Simon ran over to us in a very blatant manner when we had gotten back to the beach.  " guess what i cou-" who was on fire duty?I said jeeringly "SamnEric bu-" Why aren't they on fire duty". "Well i used them to help catch a pig! We finally have meat" Jack said.  You let the fire out.  "But we got meat" Jack explained.  There was a ship out there and we could have been rescued but your obession with hunting ruined it.  "Yeah thanks a lot" said Piggy said in belligerence.  Piggy and Jack went at it and than Jack punched him to the ground slapped him in the head and broke his specs.  Than Jack and I yelled at eachother also.  Jack was a effigy of a heartless person.  That was rude.  "I apologize for the fire incedent" Jack said.  "how about we have some meat?" Jack said.  He gave everyone but Piggy meat.  Piggy asked for some but Jack didn't give him any.  Than Simon gave his to Piggy and Jack was infuriated.

Chapter two: "I declare the rules"

OK.  Now that we are all here and you have all quieted down i have some rules.  We need order.  whoever has the conch has the rite to speak.  No one was errant like before.I am the leader and therefore i can interrupt and i can give the conch.  A boy with a mark on his face after being pressure asked for the conch.  He stuttered for a little before saying something.  He than muttered about a beast snake animal or something.  A lot of the boy's were laughing at him along with me and i was wondered if everyone laughing was as scared as i was.  There couldn't be anything on this island like a snake, its impossible what a silly boy.  I tried to get the thought out of my head.  I grabbed back the conch i didn't want anyone getting scared or questioning my athority.

On to the next subject.  How are we going to get rescued.  I wasnt going to give the conch to piggy because he is already negative about the sittuation.  He thinks that no one knows about us and that is not true.  The queen has a map of every island and we shall get saved.  I know! I exclaimed.  We can make a signal fire at the top of the mountain and we shall be found!  All of a sudden I hear cheering FIRE!FIRE! LETS GO MAKE A FIRE! Everyone is running with ebullience except for piggy but i don't want my leader reputaion getting ruined becuase of that fatty. HE was yelling that we can't burn down the island and we need to make a shelter if we are aregoing to be here a while.

When we got to the top of the mountain everyone was helping get wood I knew this would work until i thought about how we were going to light up the fire.  Piggy finally made it up to the top and was complaining.  Once we all had stopped we were thinking about how to start the fire.  All of a suden jack bursted out with a brilliant idea.  "Lets use Pigy's glasses!" I agreed and went to go hold back Piggy while Jack pinched his specs.  I knew Piggy was going to put up a fight.  Once we had the glasses Jack used them as a magnifying glass and used the sun ray to start the fire.  It was so hot we had to turn back.  When we had stopped Piggy was complaining even more about shelters and what not.  I wasnt listening till he started talking about the kid with the mark.  "Where is he !" Piggy exclaimed. I looked around i didn't see him.  This is bad. Someone said they had seen him playing by the fire.  "Look what you have done!"cried Piggy. I was induced by piggyWe all knew what had just happened and i respected Piggy just a little bit more.  "I should have listened to him" I said to myself.  After this loss all the kid's were martyred

chapter 1: where are we?

"What's happening?" "where are we?" "oh finally you have woken up" said Jack. " You fainted again, we were on a plane and i think we were shot down".  "What! I dont remember a thing".  Ok well just get on your uniform we are going to say our matins and than go see if anyone is on this island". We said our prayer and we walked through the forest and out onto a beach.  One of the other four boy's i was with said i looked pallor from fainting.  "we walked for a while and than suddenly we heard a loud low pitch sound and we followed it till we saw a group of boys on the border of the beach.  I was relieved to see someone else on the island.

When we got over to the boy's we started talking.  "I woke up" had I passed out again? I get up and next thing i know i was voted in to go look for food or something.  I had no clue what was going on and i couldn't remember past seeing those boy's on the beach.  Now some fat kid with glasses is arguing with another kid with a weird shell in his hand.  The fight quickly ended and a boy named Ralph, Jack, and I went into the forest.  We were to search the land to find out if it is an island or not. On the way back we found a piglet trapped in some creepers and rite as Jack was going to kill it the piglet ran away.  I think he is scared but i would never say that out loud.  At least we found some other living organism.

1. The most shocking part of the book was when Romeks brother died. I knew that the nazi's would torture people really bad but i didnt know how harsh it could be. I couldn't read all of the part because it was so sad.

2. David got the job of feading the dog's. This was a better job than the rest that he had in the past.  It was also better than most of the other prisoners job.  It was a good idea for David to take the dog's food but not too much or someone will find out.  I think this gave David time to recuperate.  

3.   The experience at Bergen-Belsen was incredible.  I was devastated about the job David had to get soup.  He had to take the bodies and throw them in a pile for soup.  He also had typhus and witnessed many people dye.  He described that there was a sheet of lice covering the floor at bergen-Belsen also that there was frozen feces and urine on the floor.  It was so upbringing when he got out of the camp.  I felt so happy for him.  I don't know how he did it but he is an amazing person.

4.  I think at the very end when two people come in to the room and tell everyone that they were liberated was David's best moment because he knew what he had been through and he was not going to be treated like crap for once in the last couple of years.  He also knew that he was one of the few who made it and that he kept his promise to his mom.  

5. David Faber's book, because of Romek,should be required reading in all middle schools, high schools and University's because all students need to learn about the horrors of the holocaust.  I think it would benefit students to know about the holocaust because we are the kids of the next generation and we don't want this to happen again.  I also think that it is a part of history that is just common sense.  This book should also be read because some people think that the holocaust never happened and that is not true and this will prove it.

In this project, I learned how to…. (skills)

I learned about Leon Batista Alberti who was a architect, Huminist, art theorist and. He was famous and mostly did facades (the front) of buildings. He rarely desighned whole buildings. His wife was named Isotta. Not only was he a professional architecture but he composed music in front of professional judjes and they enjoyed it. He was also a superb horseman and could do amazing things. He was also Italian. He was born in Genoa on Febuary 14, 1404. His family had special status and he belonged to a noble family. His father was Lorenzo Alberti and he was accountant. He was kicked out of his native city. He thought that a poor unfortunate man that is dedicated to what they do can achieve just as much glory as a rich person who is vary fortunate. I also learned about the reniassance as a whole too. I learned tthat the black death was a plague that swept one-third of europe's population. One of the main cities was Florence. The Rennisancee was a time when science and art flurished. It wasn't all about Religion. The Rennisance went on from the 1400's to the 1600's.

To me this was not the most fun project i have ever done.  It was more of a learning expferience.  The rennisance project is on the requirements for 7nth grade so i think we were just covering that.  The Povan was kind of fun.  I didn't fully understand the point of the Povan.  Next time i would plan my costume earlier because i found myself not having everthing that i wanted at the end.  I think i did well on the autobiography wich is the main part of the project but i havn' gotten my grade for the project yet : ( I enjoyed learning about Leon Batista Alberti and he is probably my idol in the professional life.  (architecture)

1.  It was vary hard to listen to David Faber's speach.  It was vary intense and descriptive.  I had to leave during the speach because it was so sad.  This is partly because i am jewish and partly because i wasn't ready for it.  Overall i loved the speach and even though i had to leave i heard the whole speach and enjoyed it.  :)

2. I think that the part about the Partisans was mostly uplifting because most of the things in the book were negative.  I also thought that a lot of the things that David was doing was really cool.  It was really sad at the end when they were all burned especially the person that David loved like a father because he lost his real father and someone who was really close to him.  I think Romek was proud because David tipped over Nazi trains and helped stop them wich is pretty cool.  Since Romek is in the army there was a corelation between David stopping the Nazi's and Romek fighting against the Nazi's.  I also think he was proud because David made it back on his own and was being a man.

3. Since the Nazi's are so cruel they probably wanted David to go on knowing about his brother's death.  They also probably hurt him a lot and wanted him to suffer both mentally and phisically.  I would not want to go on with a memory of my brother being killed let alone the way they killed Romek.

1. The pigeon was important to David Faber because in a way it saved his family's life.  Some how Ms. Faber had a bad feeling about what was about to happen because of the birds presence. I would be suprised if this actually happened but to me it seems like the bird is a symbol of peace and when the bird was not there the mom felt something bad coming.

2. I think that the Nazi's were calling it a vacation camp because they knew that this would be like a vacation compared to what was going to happen in the future.  It was kind of like a warning.  If I  was David Faber I would take it that if this is what they call "vacation" than i better pucker up because what they call a death camp might be extremely unpleasent.  I think the conditions arn't good there but if i didnt know what would be coming up i would think they were horrible.  Its hard to compare this camp to somewher like Aushwitz.  I guess David doesnt know about the future camps so he probably thinks it's brutal so far.

Have you ever encountered a Nazi after WWII? if yes what happened???

If you were to go back to Germany would you feel safe????

 

Aztec Mural Reflection

Project title: Aztec Mural    Class: Humanities

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this project was to learn about Aztec culture.  We also learned about where the Aztecs were located.  In order to learn about Aztec murals we had to create one ourselves.  Our mural was a Quetzalcoatl holding a Aztec serpent.  Quetzalcoatl was the Aztec God.

WHAT I LEARNED:

In this project i learned how to improve my painting skills and specifically how to outline colors to make a mural look good.  I learned that you need to paint white stuff on the canvas before you paint which could be a helpful tool in future life. I learned how to use a staple gun which is really hard for me :) This project was the first time i used a tracer to draw something other than Pokemon:) I learned about specific vocabulary that the Aztecs used.  For example a chinampas is a floating garden.  I learned about the diet of the Aztecs which was mostly maize(wheat family) and vegetarian foods.  I learned about the three different social classes; priest (high class), tradesman (middle class),  peasant/slave (lower class).  In addition i learned about some of the God's they had and how they worshipped them.  A way of showing respect was to sacrifice.  They thought that the one who was sacrificed would be a messenger of God.  It was a honor to be sacrifice.  

REFLECTION:

I enjoyed this project because it allowed me to paint which is one of my skills.  I love art and this project was out of the ordinary so that is another reason it was enjoyable for me.  I got to be with one of my best friends and team mates Wade Bruffy also known as Cal nartin jr.  I think that i would have helped my group more if i didn't get the chicken pox.  Next time i will stay healthy and not get sick and let my whole group down.  I think that i was vary on task when i was not sick though. :)

Title: Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

There are a lot of things that this book and  movie so different.  By watching the movie i indicated a lot of differences.  I depicted that Tibby seemed more innocent in the book than in the movie.  Part of it was because you could actually see that Tibby is pretty much goth and has piercings and is allways seeming down.  In the book they made it seem like Tibby is not the odd one of the group even though she kind of is.  In the movie when the four girls meet to have the ritual and declare the rules of the pance they go to a fashion department but in the book they go into a school.  One of the major differences from the book than the movie is that kustos' and Lina's grandparents hate eachother but in the book they are friends. This changes Lina's whole lifeline. One of the other things i spotted is that Eric seems to be into Bridget a lot more in the book than in the movie. I guess that is because you could see him watch her.  Im glad they didnt do the freak dancing seen.

question:  If you had to be one of the charecters and live the exact same timeline that they did who would it be???

READING GROUP #2

I think Tibby is being really mean to Bailey.  Sometimes I think Tibby forgets that Bailey has Cancer and says something rude.  I know Bailey is a brat but that is probably because of what she has and is going through.  Bailey is upsessing about Tibby because it is probably the only friend she has had and she doesnt know how to handle it.

I am really getting bad vibes from bridget.  I don't think that it is even possible for her to go out with the soccer coach.  I don't know if it is just me but i think that it is really gross that bridget tried to freak dance with Eric.  He is so much older than she is she really needs to back off becasue she does not have a chance.  

Do you think that Bridget has a chance with Eric????

I don't think that she does because sooner or later Eric will find out that she is younger than she said she was.  She is also trying to hard and guy's dont like girls who are really agressive.

Do you think Eric knows that Bridget is trying to get with him?

I think that he thinks that she is just teasing him but i think that later in the story he will realize that she is actually serious about him and talk to her about it.

   What a girly book!  Sometimes this book is hard to follow because in the story there a four girls; Lina, Tibby, Bridget and Carmen and they are all on trips during the summer and it switches off story to story.  Lina is in greece.  Bridget is at a soccer camp. Carmen is at her Dads house becasue her parents are devorced and tibby is working at a store called wallman's. They are typical girls just finding there way in life.

I predict that Carmen's story will be like the movie parent trap.  Since Carmens parents are divorced Carmen switches off from her mother to father and when she goes to her fathers house this time he has a fiance and two kids.  She does not like them. And that is how the movie starts a girl doesnt like her divorced parents fionce. She eventually kicks her out.  Carmen has two choices to be happy for him or to get mad and try to get his future wife out of the house.

 My question is:

How do you think Carmen will take the sittuation with her parents???

I think she will try to talk to her Dad about getting married.  If Carmen really doesnt like her she might try to prank or do something so that she will not marry Carmens Dad.  Carmen told her mom right away over the phone that her dad was getting married so it seemed kind of important to Carmen.

This week's reading was very interesting.  There is a creature called a "Djinn" who has 1,000 eyes and each eye is looking at some other place in the world at a different time.  The Djinn takes on a genie form.  He is blue and is kept in a limo in the middle of a jungle.  To awaken him you need to honk the horn of the limo. The eyes are located all over his body.

 The Djinn knows everything because he has seen everything.  To ask the Djinn a question you need to ask it in seven words and it has to be a human that asks.  This would have been a problem for Ben, Sorrel, Twigleg and Firedrake but luckily they picked up Ben on the way and he is human.  They asked where the rim of heaven lies and the Djinn told the boy by letting him look in one of his eyes.  

  Twiglegleg is on a mission for Nettlebrand.  He is to spy on firedrake (dragon) and find out where his pack lives so that he can hunt them down.  Twigleg is becoming friends with the group that he is spying on.  He decided that he would tell his “master,” Nettlebrand that the dragons live out in a dessert far away. The purpose of that Nettlebrand would go try to find them. He would then get lost in a dessert where there are no living organisms for him to feed on.  When Twigleg decided this he got vary angry because Nettlebrand ate all of his brothers.  Twigleg’s master treats him very badly and the Firedrake and Ben treat him nicely so he doesn’t want to betray the people that are nice to him.

  Purpose:

The purpose of this project was to pick and learn about a subject that had to do with moral courage.  We than were required to make a web page and enter it into a tough contest by the name of "think quest".  We were entered by our teacher in age groups according to our birthday's.  We were required to have sources and web pages with written content on them.  We had a lot of time to work on the site and today we uploaded them.

 What i learned:

At the end of this project i learned how to work hard and plow through even if it is hard.  I learned a lot about moral courage, Nazi's, mob mentality, the Salem witch trials and more.  I became a better editor by just looking at mistakes on dream weaver (site construction program) and changing them.  I learned more about formatting sources.  In the end i learned a lot about working with people that I usually wouldn't hang out with.  I also learned about the program dream weaver which we designed our site in.  Learning how to paraphrase was worth while because i will definitely use that in my future life.

Reflection:

I disliked this project.  A lot of the time i had almost no clue what to do even after asking around our group.  I did not have fun in this project because it was all deadlines and i didn't see where all this work was going in the process and that effected my learning.  If i understood the project more before i started it than i would have took advantage.  I was disappointed that i couldn't be the group leader because at first the project sounded really fun.  If I had group leader for my job i know that i would have done fine.  I would have realized what i needed to do.  When i didn't get this job i had already gotten a bad start.  This project wasn't all bad i learned some skills that i could use later in life like paraphrasing.

I think one of the most interesting part of the book was when the fairies were covering the bulletin board.  I thought that was interesting because they talked about how they transported, the way they defend themselves and and why they are annoying.  The way these fairies transport is using there tiny wings that let out dust. The dust is there protection is is sleepy dust so whoever smells it gets drowsy.  The thing that was also interesting is that it makes dragons more awake like caffeine does for humans.  They are annoying because they get in the way of signposts and you cant see where you're going.  The little homunculus,Twigleg casts a spell on the flying fairy's to make them go away but rite as the fairies drop to the ground he forgets the rest and the fairy's get angry.  Then they release the dust to make the team fall asleep.  As this happens Twigleg makes up a spell in the spur of the moment to save his friends from the fairies and it works for a little.  Enough time for Firedrake to see the Bolton board and find his directions.

A sad part of the book is howTwigleg is treated by Nettlebrand.  Nettlebrand killed all eight of Twiglegs brother.  Nettlebrand said that Twigleg is not allowed to fall in love or make friends with humans or else he will die.  Twigleg is very close to the human boy.  I think that they are friends because they stick up for eachother in debates about what the team should do.  Twilgleg would be long gone if that was true.  Nettlebrand just uses Twigleg and doesn't let him have any freedom.

            I think the most mean charecter in the book is nettlebrand. Nettlebrand is a golded dragon who uses little slaves to clean his "golden" scales which are really fools gold.  He travels through the sours becuse his amour is to heavy to fly.  His slave is the last of eight slaves (brothers) who he ate , twigleg about a foot tall.  Twigleg cleans nettlebrands teeth, cleans his fools gold, is given no breaks, chips his nail and cleans the dirt out of his scales.   

           In the story nettlebrand has a knome replace for twigleg as the foot high creature follows  firedrake(main charecter(dragon)).  nettlebran sent twigleg on this mission because firedrake is the type of dragon that nettlebrand likes to hunt.  Back in the day the fierce dragon would pop out of the earth and snatch a dragon.   He thaught that he had hunted them all but when he found firedrake he realized that there were still some left.  He sent twigleg on a trip to spy on firedrake intil he found his pack and than he would tell nettlebrand wher they were so he could hunt him.

If i had to pick a friend in the book rite now i would pick Firedrake.   Firedrake is a dragon who is vary courageous and cool. He is a night blue color and can do all sorts of cool things. One of the cool things he can do is fly and that would be vary fun. He also can shoot blue sparks out of his mouth which is really cool. Firedrake is not only cool but he is vary nice and isn't disrespectful. I would want Firedrake as a friend and his attitude is a model for everyone.

The most surprising part in the book would be when the boy meats the dragon. This was most surprising because the boy was hiding in a sewage place behind a crate and the dragon just flew in. I was surprised the boy showed himself to the dragon without fainting or having a physical effect. What was more surprising was when the dragon let the boy on the mission which is to find a place where all dragons can live in Harmony without having to flee from humans.

1. I think that the Germans tried to get all the jews in the bush's so that the american planes would not see anybody at the sight so they wouldnt shoot and the Germans could go back to killing as many Jews as they can before they were liberated by America.

Why do you think the books title is "I have lived a thousand years"?

I think the title is "I have lived a thousand years" becase living in the holocost is like living a thousand years becase all you do is eat a little and work and then die.

Do you think that Bubi, Elli and her mom will find any reletaves?

I dont think that they will because as Elli explained each charecter they didnt seem very inteligent or athletic unlike the father, mother, bubi and Elli.

I think that I would cooperate with them as best as I can. I would do that because they would shoot you if you were a bother. That would help me survive

I find this book very interesting and I couldnt stop reading it is one of the few books that i enjoy reading. Part of it is because one of my favorite subjects is the holocost.

I dont think that bubi or his father will get caught because they are very smart and could get out of it. But the nazi's were also looking really hard for jews so I have mixed feelings on the subject.

I think that it was a bad Idea for the father to try and get his son because the rest of the family needs a man to survive during a period as dangerous as this one. I think he was lucky that he made it back.
