Quote #1: "they think we are carrying these sticks for our own fire." Pg 51 paragraph

Significance:  This shows, like Ben said, how people who immigrate to America don't always have an easy life .   The Aunt said this because they were trying to get money from people and the main character wasn't yelling that it was for sale so the people just thought that they were walking with their own wood.  This was very sad because they had to walk back and forth selling wood as their children would beg.

Connection: I cannot really connect with their situation.  I have never really felt the feeling that they were.  I do feel sorry for them though.  It makes me sad that people had to go through situations like that.

If you were put in that sort of situation how would you feel and what would you do?

Quote #2: I looked at their ink drawing of poor people snagging their neighbors flotage with long flood hooks and pushing the girl babies on down the river.

Significance: In the chinese culture the girl is not as important as the boys because the boys, in the asian culture, have a reputation for being smart and for being warriors which is honorable.  This was significant because i would have been very offended if I was a girl and my parents were drawing about me being sent down a river.

If you saw a picture like that how would you react?

Quote #1: I agree that it seemed really hard for them because they couldn't sell the fire wood. But I think they were selling the wood in China not the US, but I'm not sure.
Question #1: I would be miserable if I was in this situation, and I don't know how I would handle it. I would probably get pretty mad and try to blame stuff on other people.

Quote #2: I agree with you that the girls do not get as much respect as the boys in the Chinese culture, even though they should receive the same amount. In American "culture," pretty much everyone gets the same amount of respect and it doesn't matter if you are a boy or girl. I think that the girls should get the same amount of respect because without them we couldn't keep building a family.
Question #2: My reaction to a picture like that would be surprise. Since we are not accustomed to seeing something like that, it would be interesting to see.

Quote #1: I agree with you because it seem really hard for them to sell the fire wood. I thought that they were selling the wood in China not in the United States. I dont have a connection to this quote either because nothing had happened to me like this or to my family.
Question#1: I have never been on this situation and if I was I probably really mad with other people and I wouldn't talk to anyone.
Quote#2: I agree with you because in my opinion I think that all the girls in the world should get the same respected as the boys because were both humans begins and we both have fellings. I even think that the girls should get more respect than the boys because there ladies.
Question #2: The reaction tht i would had is a face of surprise. Because I don't see that here n the United State so i would be surprise about it.
