Bamboo grove final post #5

1.THE ENDING: I was left hanging at the end of the story. I had a great desire to know what happened to the dad in specific and the reaction of KO when Hideyo came home. Yoko and Ko get there brother back and later there Dad it is a happy ever after although the mother died (the girls weren't that sad in my opinion about it). I thought it was a great experience for Ko and Yoko that there mom died because they learned survival skills and became Women who could take care of therselves even without a Man or Women in the house. Yoko became very mature during the time she spent with her mom and sister. Yoko I think didn't have any more drama in the story. They probably struggled to surrvive a little longer though.

2. IF my family was in the position that the Kawashimas were in then we would probably sing some Jewish songs on Friday knights and just some random songs during g. We would do that to maintain our religion and spirit during a time of need. IT really helps some people to be into there religion when they have nothing else.

3. I really liked KO in this story because she seemed like a really cool girl. She is very courageous I thought that because she was very smart and obedient and didn't cry over physical things like being hurt When she was hurt by the bomb she didn't cry but when her mom died she cried. she cries over important things and doesn't hold back anyone.

Ko showed me how to lay low and become more obedient. I like that about her because if you listen and lay low your whole life you will be respected and looked up to in my opinion. Then when it is the right time you pop up and do something good like shoe shining in Ko's place.

4. I was suprised that the soldiers were so mean and killed so many people. I also learned that the war affected people for there whole life even if they wern't involved. It probably split a lot of family's like it split Hideyo and the women of the family. I think the 38th parallel was very badly garded for a stupid teen(Hideyo) got through without being shot. that is also how the north Koreans got through and invaded south korea.(my opinion)

5. I think that in this story Yoko learns not to be selfish and how to rise to the occasion a exsample is when . Ko already knew how. She almost seemed ready for the war. I think the moral is hope. I think that because they hoped they had more courage to do anything.

Another moral they have is pride. I feel yoko expressed pride by walking into a classroom with her head shaved and wearing rags. That represents pride because she wasn't afraid to walk in becuase she knew that she had gone through a lot in the past and that is why she wasn't dressed like a lady.
